The Purpose of Family and Consumer Sciences is to prepare students to cope with a rapidly changing world and develop a better understanding of the areas that have an impact on the quality of life for individuals and families. Students will learn skills that will enable them to balance the roles and responsibilities within their home, family, community, and work place.
Students will spend 1 semester in Family and Consumer Sciences. During the semester, students will have the opportunity to explore many topics. Some of the topics of study will be childcare, culinary arts, food nutrition, fashion design, interior design, careers, and consumer finance. We will utilize teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and other skills that will are incorporated into the study of each topic. These skills are critical in developing a career, community, and family.
Class Supplies
Students should always bring something to write with to class every day. Students need 1 subject spiral notebook (to be left in class). Students will be responsible for purchasing the sewing supplies for the sewing project planned. Students may choose to make a bag out of recycled clothing OR knit a scarf.

Old T-shirt (preferably with a design) (3) Skeins of wool yarn (3.5 oz. your choice of color)
